Christmas Eve

 



 

 

Christmas Eve is steeped in traditions for us. I've spent Christmas Eve with my dad since my parents divorced when I was a little girl, and that tradition continues today with my family.  When we get back home, we eat a simple dinner, read about the birth of Jesus Christ from Luke, leave out cookies for Santa, magic oats for his reindeer, and a special key that lets Santa into our house. I know it is against the rules, but we hug and hold Buddy (our elf) as we say good-bye to him. We snuggle up together and watch Charlie Brown's Christmas, and we remember that although we love the gifts Santa brings, we love the gift of Jesus even more!

Iris was super excited that so many of her loved ones were able to come to her kindergarten Christmas performance. She had a perma-smile the entire time. I watched her, teared up, gave her a kiss, then ran up to my school to lead my kindergarteners in their sing-around! It was a very special day.

 

 

Iris also had the pleasure of bringing home her class pet, Biscuit, one weekend in December. She really enjoyed being the center of attention, and let us know that Biscuit told her that he REALLY wanted to meet Santa, so of course, we made sure to meet his needs while he was a guest in our home!

The mister turned 39 this month and we celebrated on Thursday, December 11 his way -with steak, friends, a good beer, no kids, and Ryan Adams. I was very proud of us 4 teachers for going out on a school night! The next day, we celebrated with the family. Kids were overflowing with excitement and ice cream sundaes were served. I'd say he had a good birthday, now what to do for the big 4-0 next year???

 

 

 

 

 

Oh Christmas Tree

Getting a tree was so pleasant this year,

we decided to get some ice cream on the way home!

The girls just had to make their dolls mini trees!

Aren't I clever?

I stuck a puzzle in a tree!

It's beginning to feel a lot like Christmas and I'm really trying to soak it all in this year. It often feels like it's over before I have a chance to enjoy it. I finished most of my shopping in the summer, had our cards printed in November, and filled our Advent calendar with Bible verses, simple activities, and no candy. Here's to a blessed Christmas season.
