Sew Crafty Saturday: Summer Fun Jars

The summer print was found at simple crafter and yes, the console table it taking on a summer theme. I think some shells may be in order.

I saw this idea on crafting chicks and thought it would be fun for us to do this summer. The printables are provided, but you know my aversion to explicit directions. I tend to look at something and make it my own depending on what materials I have on hand.  It was super easy and fun. Jars and tin cans are always saved in the Michael house, so when a new project comes up, we are ready to go. Some of our ideas include playing with friends, so don't be surprised if you get a phone call! The girls had fun helping me put the jars together. Next week is my last week of school. Summer fun, here we come!

Wee-Ones Wednesday: Typical Day

Today is Wednesday, so I dropped Lilly off at preschool at 7:30am, and proceeded on to my school, where some 4th grade girls were excited to help me out. I got them situated, barely said hello to my co-workers, unlocked the gate to let in the kids, answered a few questions, water colored, drew, broke up a few fights, dried some tears, read, hugged, cleaned tables, finished the Kindergarten scrapbooks, said good-bye to my students, talked to my most reliable mom about the party next week, planned with my team, and drove home. When Iris woke up, we all went outside to play. The girls had a blast with the bubble machine and buckets of water. They got filthy. Dan hung lanterns in the avocado tree. I mentioned that if we are not going to have another baby, we should get chickens. I went back inside, talked on the phone to my mom & made dinner; we ate outside. We cleaned up the kitchen, put the girls in the tub, gave Iris her breathing treatment while watching a Veggie Tale video. I'm now on the computer, blogging and looking at the Nordstrom sale.
Then Dan will brush their teeth. I will read books, pray, sing songs, and tell stories. We will close their doors and look at each other, have to laugh, eat ice cream, and watch TV. I will wake up on the couch with Dan telling me it's time to go to bed. Next thing I know, the sun will be up, and here we go! Does this sound like your Wednesday? I'm sure it does!

Misc. Monday: Love It!

I hope you had a great weekend. We did! Dan officiated a pirate wedding where our dear friends renewed their vows. (Pictures to come, people.) We went to the ground breaking ceremony for the new, gigantic site of our church, lawns were shaved (as Lilly likes to say), laundry was done, and many songs were sung.

This cracks me up because I know it's so true of so many of us!

Wee-Ones Wednesday: Good News!

This amazing girl is potty training herself too.
God is so good! I feel like we've had our prayers answered in the best possible way! I know that God's plan is not my own, and I've always believed God knows what he is doing. Yet, I'm only human, (and I'm making myself a little vulnerable here) so I sometimes think my plan is the best plan. Ridiculous, I know.
Anyhow, you probably remember our Iris spent 6 out of 16 days in the hospital back in February and early March. It was very scary to see our little Miss hooked up to oxygen and an IV. She has had one episode since, but we now have the medication and education to treat her symptoms until we can get her to the doctor's office.
Iris finally had her appointment with the allergy/asthma specialist last week. She was so amazing and cooperative. Her new doctor said she broke a record and was the youngest patient to do the breathing test that measures oxygen output! Dr. Cocke spent about an hour with us explaining what is happening to her little body. She drew us pictures and explained how allergies usually start in the skin, move to the nose and eyes, and end up with an asthma attack when the child is around five. Since Iris' episodes were so severe and happened at such a young age, she will probably out grow her asthma! The doc wanted to be sure, so a (horrible)  blood test was ordered. The blood test came back negative for allergies yesterday. Whoohoo! That doesn't mean that the next time she gets a cold, she won't turn blue again. And it doesn't mean she is all better, but it is great news.
In the meantime, our little trooper will still take 2 breathing treatments a day (maybe for years) and she needs an Epipen near her at all times (in case her bronchial tubes decide to close up on her)... but this may not be a life sentence, and that is something to celebrate!

Misc. Monday: KCWC Part II

Now I hope you didn't think I forgot about sweet, baby Iris during the kids clothes week challenge. She was taking a nap during our last photo shoot. Besides, I still had a few days of sewing left! I made her a different version of the classic pillow case dress using a vintage pillow case I found at the Pasadena City College flea market. (I love that place.) I also made the girls some matching corduroy skirts. They started out as little jumpers, but I could never get them to fit right, so I cut off the top. I really wish I could follow directions! It's funny, a few of my friends love doing "The Great Urban Race." I think these little sewing challenges are my version of running through cities, looking for clues, and feeling triumphant at the finish line!

Sew Crafty Saturday: Kids Clothes Week Challenge

I used the repurposing pillowcases book to make this dress.

I should give Dan a little credit for making 5 of these cute bird houses. Great job, Daddy!
So, I took the KCWC with Elsie Marley this week. I was supposed to sew for the girls at least one hour a day and see what I could accomplish. Let's be honest, I didn't sew everyday. With work, doctor appointments (fill you in on that later), the girls, dinner, laundry, life... you get the idea; it was nearly inpossible. I did get a chance to sew for more than an hour on my days off this week. I love when my job share contract gives me two days off instead of one!
Prudent Baby's tutorial helped me out with this t-shirt makeover.

Dan bought me this Paul Frank T-shirt on one of our first dates,
so it's really fun to see it get worn again!

I think she's enjoying modeling for me a little too much!

Sew Crafty Saturday: I Heart Mommyhood!

This vintage deer reminds me of me with my two fawns.

Card from Tiny Prints. Roses from Kindergartner.

I added a "mommy" banner to my Martha spring wreath using a free download from Allsorts . Motherhood quotes complete the typewriter.
Is it silly that I decorated the console table for for myself on Mother's Day? I think not! Enjoy your special day, mommies. I know I will.

Misc. Monday: Mini Me

Lilly told me awhile ago that she wished she had a pretty wall like mine. How cute is that? My little crafty corner is constantly growing and changing, and she notices every new item that is added. Her attention to detail cracks me up! So I let her pick out a few things and we put them up together. She even adorned her cuckoo clock with the charms they tape onto the bags from the Hello Kitty store. I think she thought I wouldn't notice!
