Wee-Ones Wednesday: 2nd Annual Palm Springs

Our second annual Garcia-Kennedy-Michael Palm Springs vacation was a blast. We swam, built sand castles, went down water slides, ate snow cones, BBQ'd, painted ceramics, played in play grounds and water parks, napped by the pool (Henry), night swam and conga danced with glow sticks, and on the way out of town went to the children's museum & did a little shopping at the outlets.  Can't wait for next year!

Sew Crafty Saturday: Fastest One Yet

I finished Henry's little quilt in record time, and I love it! I quilted it using free form, wonky lines. It's full of flaws, but he hasn't noticed.

Wee-Ones Wednesday: A Race To The Finish

Thank God my school got out 2 weeks before the girls' did. It was a race to the finish, I tell you! Iris had pinata party (their class made it), an end of the year play (she was the month of May), and a closing ceremony (funny, because she will still be in preschool next year).

Lilly had Open House (complete with QR codes on projects), an awards assembly (she earned an outstanding reader award), a school play (girls wore pink and were Goldilocks & boys wore blue and were the bears), a picnic after the play (teddy bears got to have a sleep over in the classroom after), and an end of the year party (Kindergarten was a ball). Whew, we made it just in time to begin a busy summer!

Sew Crafty Saturday: A Little Something

I promised my self that I would do one crafty thing a week during summer vacation. I realize that this goal might be too ambitious, but I accomplished it my first week out of the gate, so I'm feeling very good right now. The girls are still in school, so I prettied up some dish towels while I was alone and watching the series "Parenthood" on Netflix. (Everyone seems to be raving about it, although I think every episode is going to make me cry...) I also spent a bit of my precious alone time filling up this adorable cart from Ikea that I have been eye-balling for over a year! Every time I walk by it, I smile.
My alone time is quickly coming to an end. Both girls get out next Wednesday, and I'm helping all that day in Lilly's class. Iris doesn't go to preschool on Mondays, so that leaves Tuesday as my only time by myself for a long time. Now, I just have to make sure the boy takes a morning nap. Wish me luck!

Wee-Ones Wednesday: Acacia's Got Talent

Lilly's kindergarten class participated in Acacia's talent show by singing a "12 Days of Kindergarten" homage to their teacher, sung to the tune of "The 12 Days of Christmas." It was very sweet and adorable. I was overwhelmed by the stage, sound, and lights. There was even a fog machine that came on during the second half of the show. Parents had the opportunity to purchase a professional grade DVD recording of the show. I'm telling you, this was nothing I have ever seen at an elementary school!
We left early, but heard it went until just before 10pm! When we got home, Lilly asked why we didn't let her do an act all by herself (a few other kindergartners did). I told her it didn't even cross my mind. To which she replied, "I would have told jokes and worn a suit with a bow tie" because apparently that is what comedians wear!?!?

Misc. Monday: Best Friends

Iris has a best friend, a real one. Her name is Mia, and Iris loves her.  They are not fickle about their friendship. They talk about each other all the time and live for play dates. Mia is moving away in August. Her mother happens to be a very close friend of mine too, and truth be told... I'm selfishly a tiny bit upset with her for leaving me, and ripping Iris' little heart out. I know, I know there is iChat and pen pal letters to write. There is the phone and email. It's not the same though. Good-byes are not only hard, they are dumb. But I will let go of my silly, selfish feelings and wish them well on their new adventure. I know we will see each other again, and I can't wait to witness the hug those sweet girls give each other when they do!

Sew Crafty Saturday: Summah Time

I have had no time to do anything "extra" for quite awhile now, between finishing up the craziness that is the end of my school year, Dan's end of the year, dance recitals, plays, talent shows, parties, & so on.  But guess what, folks... SCHOOL'S OUT FOR SUMMER!! (The rest of the fam still has 2 weeks to go, but I'm ok with that. A little alone time never hurt anybody. wink wink). I just whipped up a little quilt top for the boy. It's super cute. I've had the charm packs for over a year now, and it felt so good to use them up and actually make something. I still have to baste it, quilt it, and bind it, but I don't care. At least I did something!

I have a summer crafting list a mile long that includes turning this library card system into a coffee table that houses craft supplies, finishing Henry's scrapbook, using a friend's quilt machine in her garage to finish off the biggest quilt top I've ever made (last summer) that my sewing machine could not handle, embellishing tons of dishtowels and throwing yucky ones out, completing our 2012 family photo album on Shutterfly. And I really want to teach Lilly how to hand sew this summer. Let the fun begin!
