Sew Crafty Saturday: Love Is In The Air

The garland is from K & Co. and the typewriter displays
1 Corinthians 13:4-5. I made the tiny hearts hanging in the tree last year.

This is the first time I hung a printable in a frame. I think is looks pretty cute with the tiny clothes pin.
You can find this print here. Vintage Valentines can be found all over Ebay or you can download and print images from Google.

Just cut out some felt hearts, and sew together to make this garland. Honeycomb heart decoration is from K & Co.

Of course being a Mommy of little ones, we have tons of Valentine books. This little poster can be found at CRAFT.

These beautiful letter can be found At Second Street.

I just cut these hearts out of an old Children's Dictionary and sewed them together!

Here's a look at our house for Valentine's Day.
I couldn't wait for February! Use any ideas you like, and have fun "heartifying" your home! xoxo, M

Wee-Ones Wednesday: Sisters

Lilly pushing Iris on the swing.

Sister hugs.

Seriously, aren't they adorable?
The girls have been getting along beautifully as of late. Lilly has been very kind to Iris, and can be overheard saying, "You are the best ever little sister, Iris," "Guess how much I love you, Iris" and "I'll protect you, Iris" when the dogs try to eat Iris's snack. It's precious.  Iris wants to do everything her big sister is doing, and have everything Lilly has. They are finally starting to play together. It's is wonderful to watch, like seeing an answer to prayer.

Sew Crafty Saturday: Fancy Bath

While Dan was at the Guitar Geek Festival for 12 hours last Saturday, I finally hung up some sea horses and painted the wall behind the shelves Dan built in the front bathroom. I meant to do this last June. Better late than never, huh?

Wee-Ones Wednesday: No One is Too Young

We have always prayed and sang songs about Jesus with Lilly and Iris, and this Christmas we read a little advent/devotional book before dinner as we counted down to Jesus' birthday. The girls really loved it, so I ordered these devotionals to continue this practice throughout the year. Music and dancing happens almost every night as I prepare dinner. This is such a special time for us; it only seemed natural to honor God in this way. Both books are great, (and Amazon's prices are so much better than book stores). Boys would definitely be interested in the  "Five Minute" book because of the connection to animals and nature. Lilly really likes it because it is full of scientific facts and has comprehension questions. The only downfall is that it is pretty short, and would last about a month and not a full year. We are reading the "preschool" one now. It's great too because it covers topics like sharing, bragging, name calling, anger, helping etc. and everyone can use a little help in these areas, even mommies and daddies!

Misc. Monday: Six Years

Yesterday, I celebrated the day I got married with the most thoughtful, loving, honest  man I know. Thank you for asking me to marry you, Daniel! I couldn't be happier. xoxo, m

Misc. Monday: New Year's Resolution

I have never made a New Year's Resolution, so that makes this year's resolution that much more serious to me. Dan's Cousin Meredith shared with me the 2011 Siesta Scripture Memory Team (siesta means sister)where women are encouraged to memorize 24 Bible scriptures in a year. That is two a month! We are supposed to log in our new verses on the 1st and 15th. Memorization has never come easy to me, so this will be a challenge. I talked four of my sweet girlfriends into doing it with me, so if you see me, Amy, Kristy, Emy, or Stephanie anytime this year, ask us what verse we are working on. We get to choose our own verses in areas we need strength, hope, etc. It's not too late to join us; let me know if you do. Meredith said this was a life changing experience for her. I am leaning 1 John 3:18 "Dear children, let us not love with words or tongue, bit with actions and in truth." It's already changed my life. Just ask Dan, I got out of our warm bed to get something for him because love is a verb; it's something you do!

Sew Crafty Saturday: Snowflakes

Don't you just love the snow?

This little yarn ball snowman wreath is my favorite, and he was so easy to make. All you need is a little hot glue, some buttons, an embroidery hoop, pins for arms, and an old spool of thread, and you're done!

I found this little print online. Sorry, I can't remember where and I got the little trees on clearance at Anthropoligie.

My girlfriend at work, gave me this adorable owl mug, and I perfected my snowflake cutting in all my years teaching.

Lilly, "This is the only snow we're going to get in Fullerton."

Close-up of the wall over the console table. This is the same book and cards from the 1950's that I used at Christmas.
 I love estate sales!
I wasn't necessarily planning on it, but I have now decorated for winter, and have no plans on stopping in the months ahead. There are just too many resources out there and fun things to collect! I searched for poems about snow, and found "Snowflakes" by Emily Dickenson. It's so fun! To sum it up, she says she's going to put down her pen to go dance in the snow. How amazing is that?

Wee-Ones Wednesday: THE Morning

This is my last mention of Christmas, I promise. We had so much fun on Christmas morning. I told my mom that we would probably get to her house around eleven, and we didn't get there until one! Iris woke up first, and went right to her stroller. She laughed and started pushing it around. Then Lilly came out, and the fun began. We ate my childhood, traditional Bisquick coffee cake and opened presents. At our house, Santa does not wrap toys. They got books, Magna Doodle desks, Slinkys, bubbles, & art supplies. Lilly got a new Princess game for Leapster, and Iris got a tea set. The girls were so grateful for every little thing. They shared, and were happy for each other. Their attitudes made me so proud! It took quite a long time because they wanted to play with everything right when they opened it, and who can say no to this sweet request?

Misc. Monday: Christmas Eve

Christmas Eve was lovely. We went to a small Presbyterian Church with the Givens family, and Grammy & Papa. It was so nice to sing carols and praise Jesus for all that he has done for us. Then everyone came back to our house and (patiently waited) to eat dinner. Iris went to sleep promptly after dinner. Quentin helped Lilly leave out the oats for Santa's reindeer. After everyone had gone, Lilly and I left Santa some milk and rice crispy bars. Then she got to give our elf, Buddy, a hug and kiss good-bye because she won't see him again until next year. If you know the story of "The Elf on the Shelf," this is our family's special twist. She was elated!

Sew Crafty Saturday: Skirts Plus

I had to throw in a pic of their skirts last year. Can you believe how much they've grown?
Like I said, I think I will have at least another week of Christmas related posts. Did you notice the girls skirts in the pictures from Wednesday? I'm proud to say that I made them. It was a last minute decision and they came together beautifully. I even washed them on Christmas Eve, so they could be worn again on Christmas Day. I made the girls two styles of barrettes this year too: flowers to go with the flannel shirts, and pinwheels to go with their skirts. I made myself one, and  I also made my niece, Sophia a headband, and Dan's second cousins the pinwheels. Remember how much it rained the week before Christmas? Well, that was when I found time to be crafty. I have decided that making the Lilly and Iris matching skirts for Christmas would become a family tradition.
